Prince William County reported 37,000 spectators, participants and volunteers at the Battle of Bull Run reenactment over the weekend, despite temperatures hovering around 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
Emergency workers treated 248 people on the scene for heat-related illnesses and transported 14 to the hospital, a number county officials called “relatively low.”
County authorities planned for the worst, setting up cooling stations and two air-conditioned medical tents. Prince William Hospital donated water.
