‘Farmers Markets at the Capitol’ draws Gov. Snyder

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder says he was on the prowl for “some raspberry-blueberry opportunities” and found just what he wanted at the first of two “Farmers Markets at the Capitol” events in downtown Lansing.

The governor snagged a raspberry-blueberry pie Thursday at the Sweetie-licious Bakery booth before moving on to buy blueberries and sweet corn.

Snyder says agriculture is a big part of Michigan’s economy. He voiced concern about the drought and welcomed a rain shower that left a few puddles earlier in the day.

Vendors offer fruits and vegetables, meat and fish, honey, maple syrup, flower bouquets, herbs and spices, baked goods and other items. All are grown, made or processed in Michigan.

The second “Farmers Markets at the Capitol” is scheduled for Sept. 13.
