‘Shameful’: Biden responds to Trump claim that he wants to ‘hurt God’

Joe Biden on Thursday called President Trump’s accusation that the former vice president is “against God” and wants to “hurt God” a “shameful” attack.

“We’re in the battle for the soul of our nation, and President Trump’s decision today to profane God and to smear my faith in a political attack is a stark reminder of what the stakes of this fight truly are,” Biden said in a statement.

Biden added that it is “beneath” Trump’s office to make such attacks, calling Trump an “insecure” bully.

“My faith teaches me to love my neighbor as I would myself, while President Trump only seeks to divide us,” Biden added. “My faith teaches me to care for the least among us, while President Trump seems to only be concerned about his gilded friends. My faith teaches me to welcome the stranger, while President Trump tears families apart. My faith teaches me to walk humbly, while President Trump teargassed peaceful protestors so he could walk over to a church for a photo op.”

Biden’s comments came after Trump attacked him in a Thursday afternoon speech near Cleveland.

“He’s following the radical left agenda,” Trump said. “Take away your guns, destroy your Second Amendment, no religion, no anything. Hurt the Bible. Hurt God. He’s against God.”

Trump’s campaign in the past month has upped its attacks on Joe Biden, saying that he does not represent people of faith because he supports federally funded abortions and said he would reinstate a contraception mandate on the Catholic religious order the Little Sisters of the Poor.
