First lady Melania Trump slammed critics of her husband’s track record with the gay community, saying that President Trump’s status as a political outsider “earned him many enemies in the political establishment.”
“I was shocked to discover that some of these powerful people have tried to paint my husband as anti-gay or against equality,” she said in a video message posted by Log Cabin Republicans, a pro-LGBT nonprofit organization, on Thursday. “Nothing could be further from the truth.”

“Donald has been clear that gays and lesbians will be treated as he has always treated them: equally,” Trump continued.
The first lady then outlined several examples of the president supporting the gay community in the past, including his distinction as the only president to take office supporting gay marriage and his appointment of Richard Grenell, who is gay, to a Cabinet position.
“Donald is the first president to enter the White House supporting gay marriage,” Trump continued. “Donald is also the first president to appoint an openly gay official to his Cabinet.”
The Slovenia-born former supermodel then turned her attention to “cancel culture” and lamented the censorship of gay conservatives in the United States.
“Today, we see free-thinkers and independent voices, like gay conservatives and Log Cabin Republicans, silenced, censored, and bullied by cancel culture mobs,” she said. “This is not the America any of us want to live in.”
“I’m first lady Melania Trump,” she said toward the end of the video. “I support the Log Cabin Republicans, and I am unapologetically outspoken. God bless you all, and God bless our beautiful nation.”
The first lady hit the campaign trail for the president earlier this week, appearing in Pennsylvania and telling a rally crowd that former Vice President Joe Biden’s “socialist agenda” will “destroy America.”
