OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A math teacher in the Fairview School District in northwestern Oklahoma has been named the state’s Teacher of the Year for 2013.

State Superintendent of Schools Janet Barresi bestowed the title on Elaine Hutchison during a ceremony Tuesday at the Oklahoma State Fair.
Hutchison teaches Algebra II, trigonometry, pre-calculus and advanced placement calculus at Fairview High School and Chamberlain Middle School and at the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics Regional Center. She is a National Board Certified Teacher with 19 years of classroom experience.
She will receive about $50,000 in cash and prizes from numerous contributors, the use of a car for a year, a laptop computer and $500 credit toward a classroom makeover. She will also represent Oklahoma in the national Teacher of the Year competition next spring.
