Wizards to debut jersey patch honor Abe Pollin tonight

After wearing a black strip in each of the games they’ve played since team owner Abe Pollin passed away two weeks ago, the Wizards will debut a court logo and jersey patch tonight in front of a national television audience when they take on the Boston Celtics at 8 p.m. on TNT.

The team announced today that it will honor the legacy of Pollin by prominently displaying a logo featuring his name, “Abe,” on both the court and a patch that will adorn their home and away jerseys for the remainder of the season.

“We’re proud to honor Mr. Pollin as a team by wearing the patch on our jerseys,” said Wizards president Ernie Grunfeld in a statement. “It’s also appropriate that his name will be featured on the court at Verizon Center, a building that stands as a testament to his vision, generosity and commitment to making his community a better place.”
