April 1: Fooling Around on the Farm bike ride, Germantown, 5:30 p.m. Mid-Atlantic Off Road Enthusiasts are leading a moderately fast ride at Schaeffer Farms. Helmets are mandatory. Info: more-mtb.org.

April 3: Introduction to Mountain Biking, Baileys Crossroads, 9 a.m. REI is holding this workshop on easy terrain. Instructors will teach basic skills such as shifting, braking, maneuvering, climbing and coming down hills. Info: rei.com/stores.

FENCING

April 14: Fencing class, Northwest Washington. Fencing classes for adults will start April 14, with sessions on Wednesday nights. Registration has already opened for the D.C.-sponsored classes. Info: fencer.com.

INLINE SKATING

April 2: Beginner skate, Washington, 7 p.m. The Washington Area Roadskaters will begin its season of Friday night beginner skates around downtown, with a two-hour circuit starting at the White House. Info: skatedc.org.

RUNNING

April 3: Easter Classic 5K and 10K, East Potomac Park, 8:30 a.m. The Potomac Valley Track Club is holding these runs around Hains Point and East Potomac Park. Awards are Easter baskets. Info: pvtc.org.

April 3: Difficult Run Cross Country, Great Falls, Va. 9 a.m. The Montgomery County Road Runners Club is hosting this 8K on dirt trails, complete with hills and obstacles, in Scott’s Run Nature Preserve. Info: mcrrc.org.

April 3: Wild Woman 8K, Frederick, Md. 8 a.m. The race focuses on women’s health and wellness, and will take runners along rolling hills and paved paths. It benefits the Women’s Giving Circle. Info: fundamentalfitness.biz/wildWomen.asp

SWIMMING

April 23-25: Colonies Zone swimming championship, George Mason University. Swimmers can compete in up to five individual events each day plus relays. The 1,650 free is full. Online entries due April 12. Info: patriotmasters.org.

TRIATHLON

April 17 and 18: Rumpass in Bumpass, Bumpass, Va. This is a two-day event on Lake Anna, with an Olympic distance (1.5K swim, 24-mile bike, 10K run) on Saturday and a sprint tri (750-meter swim, 12-mile bike, 5K run) on Sunday. Info: setupevents.com.
