Trump’s birthday message for ‘God Bless the USA’ singer sent to random lawyer

President Trump on Friday tried to send a birthday message to the Lee Greenwood, the singer who performed “God Bless the U.S.A.” at his inauguration concert in January, but accidentally tweeted at a Washington, D.C., lawyer with the same name.

“Happy birthday to the great @leegreenwood83. You and your beautiful song have made such a difference. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump tweeted Friday morning.

The Lee Greenwood that Trump tagged is a self-described “lawyer focused on Washington DC sports — all things Redskins, Caps, Nationals, Wizards. A current New Yorker who maintains his DC roots through Twitter.”

The president meant to tag the singer, who wrote and debuted “God Bless the USA” in 1984. The song became popular during the Gulf War in 1991 and again after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in 2001. Greenwood turns 74 years old Friday.

Trump later deleted the tweet and tagged the correct Lee Greenwood.
