The Akridge Family Foundation is donating $1 million to help restore the National Mall. John Akridge, a leading Washington entrepreneur and founder of the Trust for the National Mall, announced the gift Monday. His foundation is the first to give a seven-figure gift out of a group of philanthropists and corporations that provide the basis of the Trust’s support. The group hopes to raise $350 million to revitalize the Mall after years of over-use and subpar maintenance. – Courtney Zott
