Injured bald eagle causes DC Metro delays

An injured bald eagle caused rush-hour delays for the Washington, D.C., area’s Metro on Wednesday as the transit authority awaits wildlife services to care for the bird.

The injured eagle was spotted along the tracks near the Morgan Boulevard Metro Station along the Blue and Silver Lines. Riders reported the bird to be alive with its head moving but unable to leave the area on its own.

“We are currently single tracking on the Blue/Silver lines as appropriate animal resources respond to an apparently injured bald eagle on the tracks near Morgan Boulevard. Our apologies for delays as we work to get him/her to care,” the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority tweeted.

Silver Line trains are being re-rerouted to New Carrollton in Maryland along the Orange Line. Blue Line trains to and from Largo continue to operate normally.

“Silver Line trains are being rerouted to New Carrollton, rather than Largo, to keep things moving as we await wildlife personnel for the bald eagle on the tracks between Addison Road and Morgan Boulevard. Blue Line continues to/from Largo,” WMATA said.
