NYC kosher soup kitchens making 3,000 meals a day

NEW YORK (AP) — A Brooklyn-based charity says its kosher soup kitchens have gone from cooking 500 daily meals to 3,000 since the superstorm.

Masbia (MAHZ’-bee-uh) said Monday it answered a city councilman’s plea last week to help provide fresh food for more than 500 seniors at the Park Slope Armory.

It also has delivered hundreds of meals in Seagate, Coney Island and other areas.

Spokesman Alexander Rapaport says the number of requests from around the city keeps growing.

Masbia had to figure out how to transform its operation from restaurant style dinners to portable meals.

Now, it’s hoping for a continued influx of volunteers and donations.
