The stars aligned in a special way just about a month ago in the city of Frederick.
That was when blues star Deanna Bogart agreed to play a fundraiser with some regional favorites including Mike Aubin, Dan Leonard, Scott Ambush and Marshall Keys. The result was musically explosive, something Bogart hadn?t imagined when she took the stage with the musicians. Now the musicians are coming together again for a one-time show to recreate ? and expand upon ? that magic.
“I call it bluesion,” Bogart said by phone just after playing the Monterey Blues Festival in Seaside, Calif. “We?re going to recreate it, and it will be only that weekend. I don?t know what will happen, but when I found out they were available I jumped at the opportunity to put a whole gig together.”
The gig will include a lot of improvisation and allow blues, jazz, pop and rock to mingle together and create the sound Bogart found captivating. This time out, the musicians have more time, so they?ll include tunes they have never played before and then some they have.
The show comes in the middle of an action-packed summer during which Bogart has been featured in national music magazines and played almost nonstop. And more action is just around the corner.
She?s tight-lipped about a live recording that?s in the works, but her voice betrays an expectation that it will create some major buzz.
That wouldn?t be anything new to Bogart, one of the most heralded modern blues musicians whose music never fails to captivate an audience ? or critics.
“This is one of the best shows you?ll ever see, and Deanna Bogart is one of the best female musicians these ears have ever heard,” wrote Valerie Ridenour, Key West, The Newspaper.
That?s the sort of impact Bogart?s sultry singing voice and incredible, hard-charging, energy- filled piano and sax playing has on the audience. Watch for it to be in full evidence at this upcoming show.
“This is going to be an amazing show,” she said with a laugh. “And I get the best seat in the house.”
