WATCH: Dog guards the body of man in war-torn Ukraine

A German shepherd was recorded guarding a man’s body in a ditch on the side of a road in Ukraine, reportedly in the aftermath of a Russian attack.

Two videos shared on Twitter told the story of two Ukrainian men caught in Russian gunfire with two dogs.

The first video was reportedly filmed by one man from inside a Mercedes-Benz Vito minivan. He captured the moment the bullets start hitting, just as the other man spots Russian forces on the road ahead and begins slowly driving in reverse.

Russians fire in two bursts, and the two German shepherds in the back seat begin to whimper. Between the first and second burst, one man gets out of the van to hide behind it.

In the meantime, the other man begins bleeding badly, as his right leg is missing from the kneecap down. He falls helplessly out of the car and into the middle of the road. The first man drags the other behind the van and kisses his face.

Throughout the attack, no cars drive down the road in either direction, as it appears the men were the only target.

The next video shows what happens next, depicting one of the German shepherds dead from its wounds and a human body in a ditch on the side of the road. The surviving German shepherd guards the body cautiously and does not approach the man filming.

Their van, now riddled with holes, remains in the same spot in the road. Behind the van, the spot where one of the men was dragged is stained with blood — but the man is no longer there.

There are no longer Russian soldiers at the end of the road by the time the second video is filmed. No other cars drive down the road during the course of the second video.
