The White House Correspondents’ Association has rescheduled its annual dinner for the fall after its spring date was scrapped because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Now set for Aug. 29, the organization said it decided on the new date “after consulting with public health and medical officials.”
“For most of us, the COVID-19 pandemic has been the most important story of our lifetimes,” Jonathan Karl, president of the WHCA, said in a statement on Monday. “We hope our rescheduled 2020 dinner will be a chance to celebrate the kind [of] important journalism we have seen throughout this crisis.”
The association, comprising journalists who cover the White House, originally had its dinner event scheduled for April 25 but canceled it late last month.
This year’s event is still set to bring comedy back to the menu with Saturday Night Live’s Kenan Thompson hosting and Hasan Minhaj listed as a featured entertainer.
President Trump has yet to attend one of the dinners during his presidency, skipping the past three events while labeling them as “boring” and “negative.”
