While Virginia Senate candidate George Allen raised more than $1.5 million in the first quarter, Tea Party candidate Jamie Radtke’s campaign is staying mum on their specific figures.
Radtke spokesman Chuck Hansen said they had two goals in the quarter – to put together a solid campaign organization and raise $50,000. Late last year, Radtke raised more than $100,000 for the campaign in just three weeks.
“Our treasurer is finalizing a few numbers, but we exceeded both Q1 goals and we’ve already raised over $150,000 for this campaign, which puts us a year ahead of Jim Webb in his race against George Allen in 2006,” said Hansen. “Keep in mind that, at this time in 2005, the Allen campaign had raised more than $2,000,000 and had more than $3,000,000 in the bank. One year later, Allen had more than $7,000,000 in the bank and Jim Webb had raised less than we already have raised. How’d that turn out?”
Hampton Roads Attorney David McCormick and Chesapeake Bishop E.W. Jackson are also running on the GOP side, which includes several other potential contenders, such as Prince William County Board of Supervisors Chairman Corey Stewart and Del. Bob Marshall, R-Prince William.
The reporting deadline is this Friday.
Former Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, having jumped into the race last week, does not have to file his numbers for the most recent quarter.
