President Trump’s longtime attorney Michael Cohen threatened legal action against Us Weekly around 2013 as it prepared to print a story about Donald Trump Jr.’s alleged affair with a former “Celebrity Apprentice” contestant.
Cohen was able to get the magazine to kill the story about the alleged relationship between Trump Jr. and Aubrey O’Day, the Wall Street Journal reported Sunday.
As magazine staffers were reporting the story, they called the Trump Organization for comment. Cohen called them back, threatening legal action. The lawyer was so furious that staffers muted the call while he spoke, a source told the Wall Street Journal.
“We were all on speakerphone and huddled around the phone,” this person said. “He was just one of these New York characters where he was just like swearing at us and totally over-the-top threatening.”
The magazine agreed to kill the story instead of go through a potential legal fight.
The alleged affair made headlines last month when Trump Jr.’s wife filed for divorce.
Cohen is under scrutiny for nondisclosure agreements he made between President Trump and ex-porn star Stormy Daniels and between a Republican National Committee official and a woman claiming to have had an affair with him.
