Trump says ‘we’ll see’ how 2022 election goes before deciding on 2024 run

Former President Donald Trump acknowledged multiple favorable polls but said “we’ll see” how 2022 midterm elections go before deciding on another run for president two years later.

“Based on every poll, they want me to run again, but we’re going to take a look, and we’ll see. We have first steps. First, we have to see what we can do with the House,” Trump told Maria Bartiromo during a Fox News interview on Tuesday.

Trump, who lost his bid for reelection to President Biden last year, also emphasized his belief that Republicans will take back the House in 2022, citing Republican gains in the 2020 general election.

“What happened is we ended up winning 15 seats on deck, losing potentially 25 seats, that’s big, and it almost cost [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi her job. I think we have a chance of taking back the House,” Trump said.

Trump, who remains critical of Republicans who have crossed him and has begun making revenge endorsements, met with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy in Florida in January and struck a deal to help the GOP retake the House majority in 2022.

“We’ll make a decision after that,” Trump said in hopes of winning the House, adding he believes the Biden administration’s handling of the U.S. southern border and decision to cancel construction of the Keystone XL pipeline will inspire voters to elect a GOP House majority in 2022.
