Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has been telling confidants that he is prepared for President Trump to fire him from the Justice Department, according to a report published Friday.
In speaking about his possible departure, Rosenstein has been quoting Martin Luther in saying, “Here I stand,” NBC News reported, a shortened version of the quote, “Here I stand; I can do no other.”
He told one person he is at peace with the possibility of being fired because he believes he has done his job with integrity.
Rosenstein is reported to have said he does not regret his role recommending the firing of former FBI Director James Comey last May, and vowed that history will be on his side based on the facts.
Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon called on Trump this week to fire Rosenstein, who is overseeing the federal investigation into possible misdoings between Trump and the Russian government during the 2016 election.

Rosenstein took over the investigation after Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself of the matter.
Trump tweeted Wednesday that Rosenstein may have greater conflicts of interest than special counsel Robert Mueller because he was the one who “signed FISA and Comey letter.”
