White House senior assistant press secretary Michael Short officially resigned from his position Tuesday, the first of what are expected to be several West Wing departures.
In a statement released Tuesday evening, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said she accepted Short’s resignation.
“We are grateful for Michael’s service and wish him well in his future endeavors,” Sanders said.
Short’s resignation came after Anthony Scaramucci, the incoming White House communications director, confirmed earlier Tuesday he was planning to dismiss Short.
Speaking with reporters outside the White House, Scaramucci said he was upset that his plans to fire White House staffers had been leaked to the press, starting with his intention to remove Short.
“The fact that you guys know about it before he does really upsets me as a human being and as a Roman Catholic,” Scaramucci said.
Short’s departure is unlikely to be the last, as two sources told the Washington Examiner earlier today several press aides were expected to leave in the coming weeks.
Short worked at the Republican National Committee, and was one of several former RNC staffers who followed outgoing press secretary Sean Spicer and chief of staff Reince Priebus to the White House.
