2 out of 10 high schools fail to meet federal test goal

Chesapeake and Annapolis High schools failed to meet the federal annual benchmark for high school assessments.

Chesapeake missed the reading goal for special education students, while Annapolis failed to meet the overall graduation target and reading targets for special education and low-income students.

Known as Adequate Yearly Progress, the standard set under No Child Left Behind requires a greater number of students to pass the High School Assessments. By 2014, all students must pass the test on math and English.

North County and Glen Burnie High schools met this standard this year and were removed from the monitoring list.
