Is President Obama a Muslim?

A new poll by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life found that 17 percent of voters still believe the president is a practicing Muslim. In fact, Obama is Christian. The poll also found that conservative Republicans were far more likely to believe the Democratic president is Muslim. Thirty-four percent of conservatives believe that, up from 16 percent in 2008, when Obama first ran for president.

Will D.C. buildings ever get taller?

Local officials are talking about raising the height limit for buildings in the nation’s capital, but increased height restrictions are a long shot in this low-slung city of monuments. The District’s building height limit is now 130 feet, with a few exceptions downtown. But there is no cry for taller buildings from either Capitol Hill or the tourism industry, and preservationists have successfully beat back past proposals to raise building heights.

How much would taxes increase if the Bush-era tax breaks expire at the end of the year?

Unless Congress extends the tax cuts, the 25 percent tax rate would rise to 28 percent in 2013. Those now paying 28 percent would pay 31 percent. Those paying 33 percent would pay 36 percent. And those now paying 35 percent would pay 39.6 percent. Democrats want to extend the tax cuts only for those making less than $250,000 a year. Republicans would extend the cuts to everyone.
