The state?s attorney general charged a fourth person in an alleged bribery scheme involving construction projects at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County campus, officials said Monday.
Joseph Don Cheek of Baltimore is accused of giving a university construction manager materials and labor for a new basement bathroom and heat pump at the manager?s home in exchange for steering campus projects to Cheek?s former employers, Bell Mechanical Services and Banks Contracting Co.
Cheek, 53, is the fourth person charged in Attorney General J. Joseph Curran?s continuing corruption investigation. Cheek also allegedly made contributions to an annual golf vacation the manager took for free, according to a statement from Curran?s office. The alleged scheme took place between 1999 and 2004.
Others charged are: Dennis Roberts, 55, of Nottingham, Md.; Patrick Sisk of Cockeysville, who pleaded guilty to felony theft; and Joseph Shyrock of Catonsville, who also pleaded guilty to felony theft related to the investigation.
Two former university construction managers were fired in May 2004 following the initial investigation.
