Proud Virginian (and embarrassed Tweeter) Ken Cuccinelli got into the endorsing game this week, throwing his conservative muscle behind Michael “Spike” Williams, Republican candidate for chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.
The Virginia attorney general and Fairfax resident championed Williams’s fiscal conservatism, saying, “Spike will search for efficiencies that will get more for our tax dollars and stop the never-ending parade of tax hikes.”
His point made, Cuccinelli failed to recognize that Fairfax supervisors actually approved a decrease in the property tax rate for fiscal 2012, down 2 cents to $1.07 per $100 of assessed home value. Due to home assessments on the rise, however, the average owner will pay about $20 more next year.
Williams is set to go up against incumbent Chairman Sharon Bulova, D-At large). Bulova has served on the board since 1988, and was elected chairman in February 2009, winning a tight special election against Supervisor Pat Herrity, R-Springfield. She replaced now-Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va. The election for chairman, as well as all board seats, is in November.
