In a new painting disparaging Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, actor Jim Carrey claimed that Osama bin Laden “doesn’t hold a candle” on American deaths to the Kentucky Republican.
Carrey blamed the “10,000 gun deaths in 2019” on McConnell because he has not allowed gun control bills to be brought to the Senate floor. Accompanying the tweet, Carrey’s painting depicted a hand dipping a $100 bill in blood.
10,000 gun deaths in 2019 and the year is far from over. What Osama bin Laden did to us was terrible but he doesn’t hold a candle to Mitch McConnell. pic.twitter.com/o68JXxWlUX

Nearly 3,000 Americans were murdered in the 9/11 attacks. The FBI reports 10,982 Americans were killed by firearms in 2017, of whom 403 were killed by a rifle, and 7,032 were killed by handguns.
The painting is the latest in a series of provocative pictures Carrey has made, most of which have criticized Republicans and those working in President Trump’s administration. The outrage against him expanded internationally when the granddaughter of Benito Mussolini called Carrey a “bastard,” following a cartoon he drew mocking the death of the Italian dictator.
McConnell has been criticized for not bringing H.R. 8, which was passed by Democrats in the House of Representatives in February, to the floor. The bill requires all gun sales to go through background checks.
