By now you’ve heard that Greg Monroe has decided to bolt Georgetown for the NBA. First off, is anyone shocked that the news came via a statement from the school, and not a leak? No. Second, What took Monroe so long? From those I’ve talked to that are pretty close to him, he really has been weighing his options and was both hush-hush and truly undecided until only a couple of days ago.
Here’s the thing, as much as he may have wanted to come back to school, turning down this kind of money is exceedingly difficult, especially with potential labor uncertainty next summer when the current NBA collective bargaining agreement expires.
Monroe is setting up himself and his family for the future. As for the Hoyas, they go from returning favorite to rebuild mode – again.
