Take 5 for March 16 to 18

ArtJamz Dupont Studio Launch Sessions, through the end of the month

One evening a couple of years back, Michael Clements was hanging out with some artistic friends of his. Enjoying a few libations while decorating blank canvases with paint-fueled inspiration, it dawned on Clements that this experience might make for a fun activity or night out.

In June, 2010, Clements debuted his first ArtJamz, which initially bounced around from venue to venue. Fast-forward two years later. ArtJamz now has a permanent spot in Dupont Circle.

“It’s really a combination of things,” Clements explained his inspiration for ArtJamz, citing he wanted to go into business for himself while also being creative. “I have a passion for art and creativity.”

ArtJamz is fairly simple. For a flat rate, you get a few hours in a studio with a blank canvas and art supplies, as well as food and drinks (including beer and wine). ArtJamz can make for a great date night, a place for singles looking to meet someone new, a group or corporate event, or a creative afternoon activity for kids. The painting stations come with not only a paintbrush holder, but a drink holder as well.

“Painting is multigenerational,” said Clements, adding that a lot of women come out to ArtJamz (and he encourages more guys to give it a try). “That’s why I’m excited with what we can do with ArtJamz.”

Clements is currently the executive editor at Washington Life Magazine, a position he’s giving up at the end of the month to focus on ArtJamz full time. His title with his latest endeavor is chief creative enabler.

“It’s been really positive,” Clements said of the response he’s gotten so far. “That’s why I’m taking this leap of faith.”
