Police probe mystery at Vietnam Memorial

The U.S. Park Police are investigating a substance that was spilled along the base of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Authorities were notified Friday that the fluid was pooled near several panels of the memorial. Park Police cleaned up the mess and are trying to determine whether someone attempted to deface the memorial.

Fatal shooting

A 18-year-old College Park man was fatally shot Tuesday morning at an apartment on the 200 block of W Street NW, according to D.C. police.

RaShawn Winslow, of the 4900 block of Lakeland Road, was found about 1:40 a.m. on the first floor landing with multiple gunshot wounds to the body and head, police said.

The department offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the conviction of the person or people responsible for the crime.

Fairfax police shoot armed man after crash

Fairfax County police shot and wounded a man who they say brandished a handgun at officers after crashing a car early Tuesday morning. The 27-year-old suspect was wounded after pointing the weapon at police who were responding to the single-vehicle crash in the Reston area at 3:30 a.m., according to a news release.

He was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. One officer suffered scrapes during the incident. Police have not released the suspects’s name. – William C. Flook
