“Fashion Police” panelist George Kotsiopoulos scans the room in case he needs to make a citizen’s arrest.
“I don’t see any logo T-shirts in this room. That’s good, because I don’t like those,” says the fashion expert who chews over celebrity fashion highs and lows on the series (airing 10 p.m. Fridays on E!) with Joan Rivers, Kelly Osbourne and Giuliana Rancic.
That’s not to say he’s opposed to a casual look. During the Christmas holidays last year, he was out in public wearing a plain white T-shirt, jeans and combat boots. One fan remarked to him, “Oh! You look so rough!”
He took it as a compliment.
“Whenever [fans] spot me out and around, they always want me to critique what they are wearing,” says Kotsiopoulos, who is a contributor to fashion magazines, too. “[I say] ‘I’m not working now!’ ”
But Kotsiopoulos does want to re-dress the world, one closet at a time. Men are especially difficult when it comes to fashion since many of them don’t know where to start in their choices.
Men’s fashion has seen “a huge growth” in the past couple of years, he says.
“Men are becoming more aware of what’s out there … but they don’t always know what to do with it,” he says. “Young men are more into it. They know it’s cool to wear a blazer and jeans. You can go to H&M and get a suit that looks good for $150. There’s nothing wrong with that.”
Another suggestion he has for men on a fashion budget: Find a suit that is on sale but can be tailored. “It will make that $150 suit into a $5,000 suit if [the tailor] knows what he’s doing,” Kotsiopoulos says.
As for celebrities who are fashion icons: Tony Bennett and George Clooney are at the top of the list.
“They have a look, and it looks good on them,” Kotsiopoulos says.
