Former President George W. Bush is set to headline a fundraiser in support of Sen. Pat Toomey in Philadelphia Friday.
The Toomey campaign confirmed to the Washington Examiner that the 43rd president will attend a fundraiser at the Union League in Center City to back Toomey, who is in a tough re-election fight against Katie McGinty, his Democratic challenger.
Tickets to the lunch cost $1,000. Those who contribute $2,500 will attend a VIP photo reception with Bush, who has largely stayed out of the political fray since leaving office in 2009.
“We are grateful for President Bush’s support of Pat’s leadership in fighting for good-paying jobs and better security for Pennsylvania families,” spokesman Ted Kwong said in a statement.
Most notably, Bush has declined to support Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, deciding against even revealing who he will vote for in the November election.
But the former president has been active on the fundraising scene for GOP senatorial candidates, including Ohio Sen. Rob Portmam, New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte and Rep. Todd Young of Indiana. Bush is also set to do the same for Sen. Marco Rubio next Friday in Miami.
Toomey is currently deadlocked in his fight against McGinty. According to the latest RealClearPolitics average, McGinty leads by less than a point over the incumbent Republican.
