FBI warns of possible ISIS-inspired attacks in the US

The FBI has issued a warning Friday to law enforcement authorities across the nation to be on high alert as Islamic State supporters have been calling for attacks on churches and holiday gathering sites.

The bulletin was issued by FBI and the Department of Homeland Security after a publicly available list of churches in the U.S. was posted on a pro-Islamic State social media website.

“The FBI is aware of the recent link published online that urges attacks against U.S. churches,” FBI said in a statement. “As with similar threats, the FBI is tracking this matter while we investigate its credibility.”

Despite the bulletin, federal officials have not identified any credible threats to the U.S.

The FBI said that they will work closely with federal, state and local law enforcement should there be any potential threat to public safety, according to the Associated Press.

The warning comes days after Monday’s terrorist attack in Berlin in which a man drove a truck into a crowded Christmas market. The Islamic State, through the Amaq News Agency, claimed responsibility Tuesday for the terrorist attack.
