Fireworks back on in Gaithersburg

Gaithersburg’s philosophy on fireworks appears to be that they’re better late than never.

The city has planned a “midsummer celebration” that will feature a two-hour concert by Bobby and the Believers, food — or people can bring their own and picnic — and fireworks. The event, called “Finally, Fireworks!,” is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on July 13, with the concert starting at 7:30 p.m. and the fireworks launching at approximately 9:25 p.m. If it rains, the city will launch fireworks on July 14 instead.

Gaithersburg and Rockville both joined Montgomery County in canceling their Independence Day celebrations so that all police, fire and emergency medical services staff would be available to help residents in need in the aftermath of last week’s storm that left hundreds of thousands of county residents without power.
