The 18-year-old who ran away from a youth detention center in Laurel this month is facing assault and escape charges.
Treyvon Carey has been charged in federal court in Greenbelt with robbery, assault resulting in serious bodily injury, escape and vehicle theft. He absconded from the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services‘ New Beginnings facility in Laurel on April 18.
Authorities are still looking for Carey.
A criminal complaint says he punched and grabbed a corrections officer, choked the officer using his arm and hit him in the head. The officer became unconscious and Carey took his ID card — which serves as an electronic key — wallet and car keys, the complaint says. The car was found in the Barry Farms neighborhood of Southeast Washington.
Carey was committed to New Beginnings for offenses that include burglary and malicious destruction of property, according to the complaint.
Anyone with information about Carey’s whereabouts can call U.S. marshals at 800-336-0102 or 301-481-1717.
