Rep. Justin Amash, the first and only Republican lawmaker to call for President Trump’s impeachment, fired back at Donald Trump Jr. after he tweeted about him being primaried in 2020.
The Michigan congressman faced intense backlash and a pro-Trump primary challenge after saying that special counsel Robert Mueller’s report contained impeachable offenses. Trump Jr. took to Twitter on Thursday to taunt Amash over a recent poll showing him trailing in a primary matchup. He implied that he would assist the campaign against Amash.
“See you soon Justin… I hear Michigan is beautiful during primary season,” Trump Jr. wrote.

Amash, 39, responded by referencing a line from a 2016 email Trump Jr. sent seeking dirt on his father’s presidential opponent Hillary Clinton.
“If it’s what you say I love it especially later in the summer,” Amash tweeted, directly quoting Trump Jr.’s email to Rob Goldstone, who arranged a June 2016 meeting between Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer. Goldstone said that the Russian lawyer had information about Clinton that could help Trump, although that was not the case.

Amash is facing a challenge from Michigan state Rep. Jim Lower, who announced in May that he would run against the five-term congressman.
“I am a Pro-Trump, Pro-Life, Pro-Jobs, Pro-2nd Amendment, Pro-Family Values Republican,” Lower said in a statement announcing his candidacy. “Justin Amash’s tweets yesterday calling for President Trump’s impeachment show how out of touch he is with the truth and how out of touch he is with people he represents.”
