Six-year-old killed walking to school

J’lin Tyler was on his way to Bunker Hill Elementary School and crossing Sargent Road at Emerson Street Northeast around 8 a.m. when he was struck by a Jeep Cherokee.

Tyler, who lived in the 1200 block of Emerson Street near Prince George’s County, was taken to the Children’s National Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 8:40 a.m.

D.C. school officials sent grief counselors to Bunker Hill to help students deal with the boy’s death.

The driver of the Jeep, Beverly Ellis, 54, of the 7200 block of 16th Avenue, Takoma Park, was taken to a hospital for a medical condition apparently not related to the crash, police said. She was released from the hospital.

No charges have been filed and police are still investigating.
