Trump appoints leader of USAID after proposed budget cuts

President Trump will nominate Mark Green as U.S. Agency for International Development administrator, the White House announced Wednesday evening.

Green most recently worked as president of the International Republican Institute, a nonpartisan nonprofit that advocates for citizen-centered governance in other countries.

Green was ambassador to Tanzania from 2007 to 2009 after serving as a congressman from Wisconsin’s 8th District from 1999 to 2007, where he sat on the House judiciary and international relations committees.

He also assisted in crafting policy initiatives, including President George W. Bush’s international AIDS program and the Millennium Challenge Act.

In April, Trump proposed reclassifying USAID under the State Department and cutting the department’s budget 31 percent or $38 billion.
