Climate change group blocks drivers in NYC

They might care about the environment, but their regard for fellow humans is questionable.

A climate change group blocked a highway in New York City amid rush-hour traffic Monday. The area that Extinction Rebellion NYC chose was particularly busy — FDR Drive and the West Side Highway.

“Dear commuters: we are interrupting traffic this morning not to annoy you, but to force the public to confront the true dangers of unchecked climate change,” the group wrote on Twitter. “If we do not act today, if [President Joe Biden] does not act today, NYC will be underwater by 2100. It’s a matter of life and death.”

Emblazoned upon the group’s banner was “OUR HOUSE IS ON FIRE.”

Part of the organization’s gripe is that the Build Back Better infrastructure plan doesn’t include enough funding for environmental protection, making it “watered down.”

One mother was trying to drive her daughter to school — a straight-A student, according to a meteorologist who photographed her spat with the protesters.

The activists were “ruining it for her,” she reportedly said.

Police eventually swarmed members of the group as they sat on the highway.

A driver yelled at one of the protesters as he was driving along the road.

New York City Emergency Management told drivers to seek alternate routes. It is unclear how many ambulances, firetrucks, and police cars the protesters prevented from reaching destinations in a timely manner.
