Prince George’s targets repeat offenders with grant

Prince George’s County prosecutors will begin targeting repeat offenders who violate their parole or probation thanks to a grant from Gov. Martin O’Malley.

The governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention awarded $306,605 to the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s office, which will hire two prosecutors and two paralegals to focus on repeat offenders.

“To create jobs and maintain our quality of life, we must continue to make every neighborhood in our state a safer place to live, work and do business,” O’Malley said. “This joint effort between our federal, state and local partners will remove dangerous offenders from the streets of Prince George’s County, creating safer communities for our families and children.”

The new Collateral Offender Unit will handle probation violation cases exclusively, helping to target criminals that continue to trouble neighborhoods in Prince George’s County
