Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell deflected criticism from President Trump about lack of action by congressional Republicans by saying Trump should “give himself a little more credit” for the accomplishments he’s achieved thanks to the Senate.
“I think he’s getting a lot more done than he’s giving everyone credit for,” McConnell told CNN on Sunday, when pressed to comment on Trump being dissapointing with his leadership.
The Kentucky Republican cited administration and judicial appointments that “the Senate is directly involved in” before declaring, “I think the president ought to give himself a little more credit.”

McConnell, who met with Trump on Monday to discuss the pair’s strategy to pass tax reform among other legislative priorities, has had a strained relationship with the president.
But McConnell said Sunday he trusted Trump before downplaying attacks aimed at him from former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon as “inter-party skirmishes.”
On the issue of healthcare and debate over whether to pass measures to stabilize Obamacare insurance exchanges, McConnell said he would “be happy to bring a bill to the floor if I know President Trump will sign it.”
