Black Lives Matter activist found dead after tweeting she was sexually assaulted

A Black Lives Matter activist has been found dead after she went missing on June 6.

Police confirmed 19-year-old Oluwatoyin Salau’s body was found on Saturday in Tallahassee, Florida, and said she is a murder victim. She was a vocal activist amid protests following George Floyd’s death and sent a series of tweets on June 6 in which she said she had been sexually assaulted that morning.

“Anyways I was molested in Tallahassee, Florida by a black man this morning at 5:30 on Richview and Park Ave. The man offered to give me a ride to find someplace to sleep and recollect my belongings from a church I refuged to a couple days back to escape unjust living conditions,” she wrote.

She added: “He came disguised as a man of God and ended up picking me up from nearby Saxon Street. I entered his truck only because I carry anything to defend myself not even a phone (which is currently at the church) and I have poor vision. I trusted the holy spirit to keep me safe.”

Police said they also found the body of 75-year-old Victoria Sims, an AARP activist described as a “lifelong advocate for older people.”

“Both names have been released with permission of their families in accordance with Marsy’s Law,” the Tallahassee Police Department said in a press release on Monday.

Aaron Glee Jr., 49, has been arrested as a suspect. Local outlet WCTV reported that Glee was previously arrested on May 30 after he was accused of aggravated battery causing bodily harm.

A probable cause affidavit from May said a person claimed she offered Glee sexual favors in exchange for two bottles of alcohol. She later changed her mind and was then allegedly attacked by Glee.

He was released on June 1 on a $2,500 bond.

“Toyin was very passionate,” Salau’s friend, Danaya Hemphill, said. “She was very vocal. She was very loving, very spiritual, very caring. Toyin, she was like a light in a dark room. That was Toyin.”
