Police shot one of three armed suspects who led officers on a chase through three counties Thursday morning after a Clarksville bank robbery in which a teller was shot.

The two remaining suspects escaped police after bailing out of a black Ford pickup truck in Montgomery County, near Greencastle Road, and firing at the officers, police said.

Police returned fire, striking one suspect, who was taken to a Montgomery County Hospital. His condition is unknown, said Howard police spokesman Bryce Buell. No officers were injured in the incident, police said.

The robbery occurred about 9:15 a.m. at the Bank of America on Ten Oaks Road in Clarksville, police said.

A female bank employee was shot in the hand and taken to Union Memorial Hospital where her condition is unknown, police said.

A citizen who witnessed the robbery followed the suspects leaving the bank and called police, Buell said.

Police began the chase east on Route 32 and into Anne Arundel County before the truck, reaching speeds of 80 mph, crossed into Prince George’s County.

Maryland State Police and officers from Howard, Prince George’s and Montgomery counties were involved, as well as a Baltimore County police helicopter.

Police believe the suspects are Hispanic or light skinned black men wearing multiple layers of clothing.

The bank was blocked off by police tape for several hours Thursday afternoon while detectives interviewed witnesses inside.

“We’re obviously going to review the surveillance tapes,” Buell said.

Bank employees were questioned by federal authorities and instructed not to comment on the incident.
