National Christmas Tree blown over by strong winds

Strong winds have blown over the National Christmas Tree, according to D.C. fire and emergency services.

The tree is located on the Ellipse, near the White House and National Mall. No one was injured when the tree fell Saturday morning, a fire department spokesman said.

The president lights the tree each year. The tree is a 46-year-old Colorado blue spruce that was planted on the Ellipse in 1978. It is nearly 42 feet tall, according to the National Park Foundation.
