Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., said Thursday that President Trump should apologize to Congress and the American people for putting forward the “fiction” that President Obama ordered his phones to be tapped during the campaign.
“If the administration can’t supply any information to Congress of evidence, I think it’s going to quickly be set aside,” Merkley said on CNN.
He said if that happens, Congress will likely have to decide that the story was a “fiction developed by the president,” one that he apparently got from reading Breitbart.
“He got this one absolutely wrong, and really quite frankly, [he] should apologize,” he said.
