According to Jason Rabinowitz, a self-professed aviation enthusiast who was monitoring Delta flight 431, the aircraft continued to trek from New York City to San Juan. Other planes in the Caribbean had turned around to fly back to the mainland.
Delta is hoping for a VERY quick turn once they get to SJU.

The aircraft then navigated through the outer bands of Hurricane Irma and proceeded to outpace the hurricane as it returned to the U.S.
