Top Republican demands Twitter ban Oregon candidate for comparing Melania Trump to a prostitute

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., is demanding Twitter ban an Oregon congressional candidate’s account after he compared first lady Melania Trump to a prostitute.

Mark Roberts, who is running as an independent in Oregon’s 2nd Congressional District, implied in a tweet Monday that Trump works as a prostitute.

“Did you know the First Lady works by the hour?” he wrote, using the hashtags “think dirty” and “hoebag.”

McCarthy responded late Monday, calling on Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey to delete Robert’s account immediately.

“This attack on [Trump] is disgraceful,” he wrote. “Comments like these have no business on any platform. This account should be banned ASAP.”

Roberts did not immediately respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.

In 2017, Mrs. Trump and the Daily Mail settled for $2.9 million in damages after the news outlet published a story claiming she may have worked as an escort during the 1990s. The Daily Mail retracted the story and apologized to Trump.
