George Conway, the husband of Kellyanne Conway, said Wednesday it is “flabbergasting” that a top lawyer for President Trump would broach the idea of pardons for former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and former national security adviser Michael Flynn.
“That is flabbergasting,” George Conway said in a tweet after the New York Times reported that John Dowd, a recently deposed member of Trump’s outside legal team, floated the idea of pardoning the two former high-ranking Trump officials.

The Times’ report suggests that Dowd and Trump’s legal team were concerned what would could be revealed to special counsel Robert Mueller’s team if the two cut deals and cooperated with the counsel.
George Conway, a partner at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, has been outspoken at times about the Trump administration, despite the standing of his wife, who serves as counselor to the president. Recently he retweeted posts suggesting that Stormy Daniels’ lawsuit should be taken seriously after her lawyer moved to depose the president and others about the turnover on Trump’s legal team.
He was considered for a post at the Department of Justice last year, but bowed out of consideration in June.
