Roy Moore accuser fed up with ‘smears and false denials’

One of Roy Moore’s accusers pushed back on Moore’s “smears and false denials” in an open letter to the Senate GOP candidate, who has been the subject of multiple sexual misconduct allegations.

Leigh Corfman said Moore initiated sexual contact with her when she was 14 years old at Moore’s home. Moore has repeatedly denied the allegations and said Monday night at a rally in Henagar, Ala., that he is “fighting a spiritual battle.” He also said he didn’t know any of the women who had accused him.

Corfman slammed Moore for his comments and said she stands by her account.

“You sent out your spokesmen to call me a liar. Day after day,” she wrote in the a, provided to AL.com. “Finally, last night, you did the dirty work yourself. You called me malicious, and you questioned my motivation in going public.”

Corfman stood by her explanation from an appearance on the “Today Show,” where she claimed her story isn’t political, but personal. She said the initial attacks she received after sharing her story appeared “petty” and not worth a response, but that changed Monday.

“[W]hen you personally denounced me last night and called me slanderous names, I decided that I am done being silent,” Corfman wrote about Moore. “What you did to me when I was 14-years old should be revolting to every person of good morals. But now you are attacking my honesty and integrity. Where does your immorality end?”

“I demand that you stop calling me a liar and attacking my character. Your smears and false denials, and those of others who repeat and embellish them, are defamatory and damaging to me and my family,” she added. “I am telling the truth, and you should have the decency to admit it and apologize.”

The Washington Post reported the initial accusations against Moore earlier this month. In that report, four women, including Corfman, accused Moore of pursuing sexual and romantic relations with them when they were between the ages of 14 and 18, while he was in his 30s. Other women have come forward with additional allegations since then.

Moore is up against Democrat Doug Jones next month in the Alabama special election to fill Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ empty U.S. Senate seat.
