Ruth Bader Ginsburg discharged from hospital

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been released from the hospital after fracturing three ribs in a fall, the Supreme Court said Friday.

“She is doing well and plans to work from home today,” Kathy Arberg, spokeswoman for the court, said in a statement.

The justices are meeting for their weekly conference Friday, during which they discuss cases.

Ginsburg, 85, was admitted to George Washington University Hospital early Thursday morning for observation and treatment after she fell in her office at the Supreme Court on Wednesday night.

The justice initially went home after the fall but entered the hospital after experiencing discomfort overnight.

Tests showed that Ginsburg fractured three ribs on her left side.

Ginsburg was absent Thursday for Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s formal investiture, which was attended by President Trump, first lady Melania Trump, and a host of Republican luminaries.

News of Ginsburg’s injury prompted a flood of well wishes from lawmakers across the political spectrum.

Before departing for a weekend trip to Paris, President Trump told reporters, “I wish her well.”

“She said something very inappropriate during the campaign but she apologized for it,” Trump said. “I wouldn’t say she’s exactly on my side, but I wish her well, I hope she gets better and I hope she serves on the Supreme Court for many, many years.”

Ginsburg celebrated her 25th year on the Supreme Court in August. She was nominated to the high court by President Bill Clinton.
