Tennessee crowd boos Bob Corker at Trump rally

Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., was met with boos by residents of his home state on Tuesday after President Trump mentioned his name during a rally in Nashville.

The crowd shouted and booed Corker as Trump announced that he and Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., were in attendance for the campaign-style rally, which drew a crowd of several thousand people.

Despite supporting Trump during the 2016 election, Corker has since become a top critic of the president on Capitol Hill. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman, who is retiring at the end of his term, shocked Republicans last fall after he accused Trump of “debasing” the U.S. with his “name-calling” and “attempted bullying.”

Trump fired back at the time, calling Corker a “lightweight” in a series of tweets and suggesting he would lose a re-election bid in Tennessee.

Corker announced in February that he would retire when his term ends next year. He has endorsed Rep. Marsha Blackburn, who was also at Tuesday’s rally and is running to replace him in the Senate.
