Hillary Clinton struggled to begin a campaign speech in Cleveland on Monday, coughing repeatedly for several minutes as she sipped water and took a cough drop.
“Every time I think about Trump, I get allergic,” Clinton joked to the audience, prompting laughter and applause.
As her coughing eventually subsided, Clinton launched into a speech where she stressed that she’s the candidate who presents policy ideas in contrast to Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
“I have this old-fashioned idea that when you’re running for something, you should tell them what you’re going to do so they can hold you accountable when you’re elected,” the Democratic presidential nominee said.
She called Trump “temperamentally unfit and totally unqualified to be president,” also slamming him for his personal financial failings and several schemes where he duped people into spending money on his projects, including Trump University, but later lost their money.
“He’s driven hard-working people into bankruptcy and taken six bankruptcies himself,” Clinton said.
“You have to look at his record,” she said. “Friends don’t let friends vote for Trump.”
Clinton also urged attendees to buy Stronger Together, her new book written with her vice presidential pick Tim Kaine which will go on sale Tuesday.
