From the office of the man trying to rebuild a political image that has been hit hard by a “fully-loaded” SUV-leasing scandal comes this notice from D.C. Council Chairman Kwame Brown:
“As part of the ongoing effort by Chairman Kwame R. Brown to bring greater transparency and accountability to the Council, Chairman Brown announced [Wednesday] a novel partnership with the Georgetown University Public Policy Institute. GPPI will make recommendations regarding the best means by which the Council can stay within the boundaries of ethics rules, and to review the effectiveness of the Office of Policy Analysis for the Council of the District of Columbia.”
Brown campaigned on tightening council ethics. Earlier this week, Ward 6 Councilman Tommy Wells released a report that said the Department of Public Works violated D.C. law when it ordered two Lincoln Navigators for Brown. Since 2004, the city has been prohibited by law from leasing or buying SUV unless it is for emergency or security purposes.
